Slidell Family Lawyer Presents Family Law Webinar For State Bar Association

On October 27, 2020, Slidell family lawyer Amber Sheppard, of Sheppard Law PLLC and of counsel with Stanley-Wallace Law, presented an hour long live webinar for the Louisiana State Bar Association ("LSBA").

Our Slidell business law attorney Amber Sheppard took off her corporate hat and put on her family law thinking cap. With four days notice, she whipped up a powerpoint on what she dubbed "Family Law 101". Amber sprinkled in a lot of jokes, easy to understand explanations, and copious amount of Tubbs photos for the live-event. It was an absolute honor for her to be asked to present for the state-wide event, and by the Louisiana Bar Association. But what meant even more to her was that she was able to help folks who needed it most and do it in a way that was light-hearted and interesting while remaining true to the law.

The presentation was done during the Louisiana state-wide proclaimed pro bono week. The Louisiana State Bar Association partnered with Louisiana Parish Libraries to host a week-long event called Lawyers In Libraries that provided free legal access to questions, topics, and attorneys across the state. Typically the event is done in local libraries so folks can ask attorneys questions, have documents notarized and reviewed, or hear presentations in real time. However due to COVID-19, the 2020 Event was virtual only and re-christened as "Lawyers And Libraries."

Having run a nonprofit, serving on the board of other nonprofits (East St. Tammany Habitat for Humanity), and always considering the cost-effectiveness of her legal approach for clients, volunteering for pro bono events is very important to Amber. Legal guidance and advocacy should not cost your first-born dog or cause you to be unable to afford your other bills. The LSBA has a plethora of resources for low-cost attorney directories, legal aid organizations, self-help forms, and other legal information at Find Legal Aid.

If you meet certain income guidelines, then you may qualify for attorney advice on civil (non-criminal) matters through the LSBA Run Website: Free Legal Answers.

Just one of the photos used in the presentation. Slidell family lawyer Amber Sheppard may be terrified of dinosaurs but she isn't afraid of family law cases or presentations for LSBA.
